🐾 Did You Know? The Summer Adoption Slowdown

Summer may mean vacations for us, but the need never takes a vacation.

Summer is a wonderful time for family, travel, and making memories. But for shelters and rescues, it can also be one of the hardest times of the year.

Many families travel or head north for the summer. Potential adopters may put their search on hold, and foster volunteers may not be available while they’re away. Meanwhile, shelters continue to fill, and dogs continue to need safe places to go.

At Hopeful Paws of Florida, we never stop showing up for them.

❤️ Summer Happy Endings

Even though summer can be challenging, we have had so many wonderful happy endings.

This summer, Mochie, Lucy, Luci, Jazzy, Pirata, Mojo, Bora, Saint, Dottie, Zoe, Charlie, Tuna, and Luna, Dottie and Zoe

Zoe breeder surrounded

Charlie breeder surrounded

Dottie surrounded

And there are too many others to name.

Every adoption represents a life saved and a family created. Behind every happy ending is an adopter, foster family, volunteer, transporter, donor, or supporter who helped make it possible.

We couldn’t do this without you. ❤️

Mojo 13 year old found himself on euthanasia for space

Bora owner surrendered

Pirada was on euthanasia

Luna found herself at Lee county shelter

Jazzy was on euthanasia

Luci was on euthanasia

Tuna was on the adoption floor from Palm  Beach. With great networking we found her a wonderful home in Cape Coral.

Meet Our Powderpuffs❤️

Not every dog we rescue comes directly from a shelter.

Sometimes we are contacted about dogs coming from breeding situations. When we take these dogs into rescue, they receive the veterinary care they need, including vaccinations and spay/neuter surgery.

Most importantly, they will never have to endure a life of breeding again.

Now they get to experience something completely different being loved, playing, going for walks, relaxing on the couch, and becoming part of a family.

A Little About the Powderpuff

Chinese Crested Powderpuffs are small dogs with big personalities.

They have a beautiful, soft, silky hair coat that requires regular brushing and grooming to keep it healthy and free of tangles.

Powderpuffs can be affectionate, intelligent, playful, active, and very vocal. They enjoy walks and spending time with their people. Some may need additional training and careful introductions when meeting unfamiliar dogs, other pets, or children.

Like every breed, they aren’t the perfect match for every household. The goal is always to find the right dog for the right family.

Small dogs. Big personalities. Lots of love. ❤️ Here’s what their foster mom has to say:

Davie & Taug

Davie is definitely the more outgoing of the two. Taug tends to follow Davie’s lead, but he’s slowly starting to come into his own. He can be a little timid at first, but once he feels comfortable, his personality really begins to shine.

It’s been so wonderful watching both boys come out of their shells and discover what it’s like to simply be puppies — exploring, learning, playing, and feeling safe.

⭐ Dog of the Month: Darius & Princess

While we celebrate the dogs who have found their families, there are still so many waiting.

This month, we want to shine a spotlight on Darius and Princess at Lee County Domestic Animal Services.

These two wonderful dogs have been waiting on the adoption floor for more than a month, and somehow they continue to be overlooked.

But here’s the thing — they have a lot to offer.

They have quickly become favorites of the staff and volunteers who spend time with them. Sometimes you just have to spend a little time with a dog to see what makes them special.

Please don’t overlook the bigger dogs or the dogs who aren’t puppies.

Stop by the shelter, meet Darius and Princess, and give them a chance to show you who they are.
